Fired OpenAI safety researchers ask the board to keep AI reasoning auditable
Three safety researchers whose firing by OpenAI was reported on Oct. 1 sent a letter Wednesday to the company’s board members and safety committees, The Wall Street Journal reported. They asked OpenAI to work with outside safety auditors and to preserve the ability to monitor how its models reason.
The Journal identified them as Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak and Mikita Balesni. OpenAI has said an internal investigation found the three mishandled sensitive company information.
In an internal memo shared with the Journal, an OpenAI research leader said the company “strongly agreed” with the recommendations on monitoring and outside assessment, and wrote: “We do not terminate employees for raising concerns.”
